Lay Directors Corner

By: Alan McPeak, Cursillo Lay Director for the Diocese of Colorado .

The last few months have been very eventful in the Colorado Cursillo Community. The Secretariat published a Cursillo poster for the second year with greatly improved information, including the location of each Cursillo listed, as well as the dates, Secretariat contact, and room for a local Cursillista's name in the lower left corner. All of the churches in the Diocese were sent copies of this poster along with a copy of the Sponsorship and Team Work Applications

Our meeting at the ACRC conference in June made for a number of changes on the Secretariat (see page 3). I am happy to report that we have two new members on the Secretariat: Bernie Maly from Lakewood and Jorge Darr from Arvada. We had three people leaving the Secretariat, Joan and Scott Stewart from Grand Junction and Nancy Hause from Estes Park. Nancy will stay on as the Editor of the Crowing Times and Joan will stay on from the servant community as the database and mailing coordinator for the Secretariat. Scott Stewart will continue running Los Regalos from the servant community but we need someone to fill the Secretariat position of Special. Projects Coordinator. If you feel called to fill this position please let any of the Secretariat members know, and come to the next meeting so you can be installed.

Secretariat members are elected for two year terms, and can be re-elected once. Speaking of further personnel changes, we will be appointing a new Treasurer at the July meeting. Jean Talman has served long and faithfully in that position and wants to step down. .

Since there will be no ACRC meeting in 2003, our annual meeting next year will be during the Diocesan Convention in October. Cursillo #106 (16-20 May 2002) is now history and Cursillo #107 will be coming up in August and Cursillo #1O8 in November. This year we.are planning our first use of the Easter Seal Camp in Georgetown for the November 2002 Cursillo. Cursillo #106 had 27 candidates who are now new Cursillistas and 28 team members. I understand from one of our 4th Day Group, who worked the team, that the Cursillo was truly awesome and went very smoothly. Sue Emerson, the Rectora for Cursillo #106 has a final report on page 5. (Reports on #107 and #108 are on pages 6 and 8.)

Our Secretariat meetings over the last 12 months have pretty well covered Colorado. They were, in Golden, Colorado Springs, Salida, Ft. Morgan, Aurora and Delta. Upcoming Secretariat meetings for the next few months are being planned now. (See the box on the cover.) All Cursillistas are welcome at the meetings. We move them around the state so that the Cursillo community can attend a meeting locally and meet us to discuss local issues. If you would like a Secretariat meeting in your area, or to volunteer your church as a meeting place, please contact Daphna Russell, our .Ultreya and Fourth Day Coordinator, or any other Secretariat member. If you can coordinate an area Ultreya to meet after the Secretariat meeting, so much the better. To attend any other Secretariat meeting contact any Secretariat member to get directions.

Our webpage is up and operating correctly with Mickey Jackson as webmaster.. The address is http://www.cocursillo.org You can download the latest application forms, find the names and how to contact any of the Secretariat members and find links to other fourth day communities on the webpage. If you have any suggestions on how to improve the webpage; contact the webmaster or any Secretariat member.

If any of you has any suggestions, please drop me a line on the Internet at mcpeakal@earthlink.net or by snail mail. at 2240 Cloverdale Dr. Colorado Springs, CO 80920. ,

Seen the "And God said" Billboards?

One says: "Loved the Wedding; invite me to the marriage."
Then there's:" "We need to taIk.-God."
How about: "Big bang theory? You've got to be kidding.-God"
Or: "Come to my house before the game.-God."
And: "What part of 'Thou .shalt not' don't you understand?-God"
Maybe the best one: "Don't make me come down there!-God"

Cursillo #106

God really does keep His promises!
When I said yes to the call to lead Cursillo #106, God promised he'd be there and that I wouldn't have do worry. Well I didn't fully believe him and I worried. It didn't look like He was going to come through, because at our last team meeting we had 7 confirmed candidates and the deadline was fast approaching (Secretariat by-laws state we must have 12 candidates by two weeks prior to the actual weekend or we don't have a weekend). At that team meeting I said that I didn't think that God would bring us this far and not send us enough Candidates to have a weekend. So we prayed and sure enough by the deadline we had 27 candidates and we were elated. So be careful of what you pray for because if you have faith the size of a mustard seed you will truly be able to move a mountain. Cursillo #106 was wonderful, the Holy Spirit was there and we felt Him among us. We had the best team and it showed. Thank: you all for making Cursillo #106 so successful.

CURSILLO #107
August 22-25
From the Rectors, Joy and Bernie Maly

The team for Cursillo #107 to be held at Presbyterian Highlands Camp near Allenspark on August 22 through the 25th met June 1 at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church in Lakewood and again at the home of team members Rich and Nancy Hause near Estes Park on June 22.

There continues to be great enthusiasm and a great spirit of camaraderie and fellowship on the team. Your prayer support is requested, as is the sponsoring of candidates.

Mananitas will occur as usual at 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning, August 25, with the Fourth Day community participants needing to meet in the Rollo room.

We are making a change in the final day. As most of you know, in previous years the candidates have been involved in an activity and the Fourth Day community has entered that setting and approached them. This year the Fourth Day community will be present and begin singing as the candidates, who aren't expecting them to be there, will enter the room. We're looking forward to using this new format and feel it should be an exciting way to bring that spiritual support to the conclusion of their weekend experience. We will have guides and signs to tell everyone where to be and when. We're hoping for a very large turnout for the closura ceremony to make it as special and meaningful as possible for the candidates.

Although this Cursillo weekend will just miss out on new dining and lodging facilities which will open at the camp two weeks after Cursillo #107, the current facilities will work out very well. Team members are listed on the next page

For a logo on this section of Crowing Times I've always used a hen sitting on a nest because that's the way I feel about the CT -each issue is something r m working on hatching. ( I'm, sure however, that no hen in the world hatches eggs with as much trauma as I hatch each issue of Crowing Times-mostly because my computer and I have an ongoing love/hate relationship.)

But trauma or not, each issue is fun to put together and I usually find myself smiling a lot. Not this time. I don't feel like smiling as I write this today. There's a sentence on Alan's page "since there will not be an ACRC conference in 2003 . . " that breaks my heart. My husband and I have been going to ACRC for 20 years. Each year it has been a shot in the arm, an oasis, a respite and a learning experience. From it we have gathered strength and knowledge, including the impetus to work on Cursillos. In years past there have been many, many Cursillistas in attendance including priests who have been candidates themselves and served as spiritual advisers and team members. Each year there have been many "DeColores moments."

I know nothing lasts forever. I know change is good. I know each thing that has a beginning must ,have an end. I know, I know. But knowledge doesn't keep my soul from hurting over the loss of this wonderful, joyous weekend. I'm sure there will be forums, seminars, weekends scheduled, maybe even things that replicate it. But nothing will ever truly replace it.
